I'm just curious, what is the heigo in your Shorin Ryu Dojos? Do you use the word "osu" as a response or do you simply say "hai" or "yes" or some other form of acknowledgement? I have been to some schools where "osu" was very common, and other schools where "osu" was not used at all. I've tried to research a little and I've read somewhere that it is most likely a contraction of 'good morning' or maybe from 'excuse me'. It is also said that it was used at Japan's naval academy in the early part of the twentieth century. I see that using "osu" may be a Dojo custom. So, I was wondering if "osu" is being used in your respective Dojos? And if so, in what context?
