Yes, Mr Bonfiglio was a member of US Shorin Ryu. And to my knowledge, no one in the organization is denying that. The reason that he was removed from the organization and the site is obvious. Not only is it a terrible act, but even more so in our community. There is a special relationship between the Sensei and student which was betrayed, in this case, in the worst fashion. No martial artist would or should condone such behaviour. And by the very nature of this crime , unless the person has a prior record, or someone reports it, it is very difficult to detect. That is why it is so important for parents to get involved with their children. Many times some parents use the dojo as a day care center, dropping off their children to return later to pick them up. Nevertheless, before people start pointing fingers at parents, his former instructor, or anyone else, the ultimate responsibility and blame for this heinous act should rest with the offending person.
