It was great to see everybody yesterday at the Doshi Kai. Even though we're close to Thanksgiving, it was a great turn out. Sensei Franco did a great job keeping the class moving with FukyugataSan. Focusing on one particular kata and a few bunkais for that kata, I feel, made it easier for the students to get a better understanding. Regarding the interpretations that I demonstrated yesterday, I can only base them on the knowledge I have received from my instructors and not from Sensei Ueshiro who I did not train with. In regards to FukyugataSan, I thought it was very important that the students experienced the interpretation and mindset of Sensei Ueshiro from a historical perspective as given by Hanshi Ferrara, Sensei Maccarrone and Sensei Franco. One of the things that Hanshi brought to the attention of the students was the importance of having a training partner in the dojo. This is something I strongly agree with and recommend students finding a partner as soon as possible to help better their own personal training. For those who already have partners, communicating your experiences on the web site could be beneficial to students who may be interested in teaming up with somebody. The Doshi Kais are for the students and members of U.S. Shorin Ryu. It is extremely important that members give some kind of feedback on how the Doshi Kai has benefited them or could benefit them. In doing so, this would help to structure future Doshi Kais, keep more people involved, and create more communication between members. I want to personally thank all my students who attended, and I want to say how grateful I am to have you as students. To Hanshi Ferrara and members of U.S. Shorin Ryu, I wish you and your family members a Happy Thanksgiving.
